WHAT TO EXPECT
We know visiting a church for the first time can feel a little awkward so we have included this page to help make your first visit a great experience.
Atmosphere – OCC is often described as a place where you can relax and just be yourself; where you don’t have to pretend you are perfect. It’s a place where you can escape the pressures of the world and where you can experience Jesus Christ in real and practical ways. One of our newer members recently commented, “When I first attended OCC, I felt like I had come home.”
Dress – Come dressed comfortably. If you prefer a suit or a dress, that’s great. If you prefer a more casual outfit of slacks or even jeans, you’ll fit right in as well. We desire to be respectful in our dress, but we also believe God is more interested in who we are on the inside than in what we wear on the outside.
Christian Education Classes – You’re welcome to come for Christian Education Classes which take place during both services. There are classes available for everyone, birth through adults.
Children’s Service – During both the 9 & 10:30 am service, we offer classes for children from birth to 6th grade. At 9:00 am and 10:30 am our nursery is for birth through age 24 months and is located next to our Welcome Center at the main church entrance. Three other classes, age 2-3, age 4-6K, and grades 1-6, meet downstairs in the Children's Ministry Area. We encourage you to let your child(ren) experience learning in this energetic and fun atmosphere.
Sunday Morning Worship Service – Our first service is from 9:00-10:00 am. The second worship service begins at 10:30 am and usually ends by 11:40 am. The two services are the same in content.
Singing – Music is one way we worship and express our love and gratitude to God. A small team of 3-4 vocalists leads our music. They are accompanied by piano, drums and guitars. Our blended worship service combines treasured hymns of the past along with the best of today’s contemporary praise and worship music.
Prayer – We are a church devoted to prayer. We believe God hears and responds to prayer. Prayer is a powerful thing and it is an important part of our services. We have seen prayers answered and we celebrate the miraculous workings of God in our lives and in our world. If you have a prayer concern, we will gladly join you in lifting the matter up to God. You can leave a prayer concern at the visitor center, drop it in the offering plate, or come forward at the conclusion of our services and someone will pray with you.
Communion – It is our practice to participate in communion every Sunday. Our communion is open to all believers. We encourage those participating to receive the emblems as passed, hold the emblems as you pause for prayer and reflection, and then partake as you are ready. A receptacle is provided on the back of the chair in front of you for your empty cup.
The Sermon – While we occasionally bring in special guest speakers, most sermons at OCC are delivered by our minister Martin Wright. Marty’s preaching style is conversational and his messages are encouraging. Members and guests comment that Marty’s sermons are “down to earth”, “practical”, and that his delivery is “genuine”. Click on the sermons link to check out recent messages and preaching series.
Invitation – At the end of each service, we offer an invitation for anyone wishing to make a decision to make Christ the Lord and Savior of their life.
Baptism – When the apostle Peter first addressed the church in Acts 2 he challenged those present to follow Christ, to repent of their sins and to be baptized. We continue to live out this pattern as a church today. Baptisms frequently occur at the conclusion of our worship services, but they are also conducted throughout the week. We encourage those considering baptism to speak with a member of our staff or leadership team.
Thursday Evening Service - 6:30 - 7:30 pm – Thursday evenings at OCC are quite special. We something for the whole family from our children's ministry offered for birth to 6th grade to our Jesus Jam youth group for 7th through 12th grade. This worship service offers a wonderful opportunity for those not able to worship on traditional Sunday morning hours.
